Thank You Cookies

So I told you in my last post that my Lolo passed away last week. Well, while he was in the ICU for two and a half weeks, he was attended to by many wonderful nurses. So the family wanted to give them a token of our appreciation. And what better says “Thank you” than cookies?

My sister and I started out by making ribbon roses from Sugarbelle’s tutorial she posted last week. You may notice ours are not as good as hers… But this was our first try, so hopefully we’ll get better.

We used a scalloped square cookie cutter for the cookies, flavoring this recipe with lemon extract and the zest of one lemon. Then we used ivory 20-second icing in a squeeze bottle to make a scalloped border.

Then we filled it in

and used a toothpick to smooth it.

We took the roses we had made the night before and placed 3 on the corner of each while the ivory icing was still wet.

When it was mostly dry, we piped on “Thank you” using a #1 tip and the same colors we used on the flowers, and added leaves with a leaf tip.

We also made some coordinating cookies with green 20-second icing and outlined it with yellow. We totally planned to do this from the beginning, and definitely not because we ran out of ivory icing. Yeah.

So to all the wonderful nurses out there, who support their patients and patients’ families, thank you.  It means a lot to us.
